Hugo Rivera's Personal Bodybuilding Pre-Contest Training Routine

Saturday December 31, 2005
As the competitive season is getting ready to start (starts on March), I have gotten quite a few questions regarding how to alter one's bodybuilding weight training program to a pre-contest one. In addition, since many of you who do not compete are going to start a fat loss cycle starting next week in order to look good during Spring, I felt that it would be beneficial to everyone for me to post my Personal Pre-Contest Training Routine. Keep in mind that I designed this routine knowing what my limits for recovery are. Therefore, if the training volume is too high for you, feel free to adjust downwards a bit. Also, keep in mind that this routine will not work unless you are following a diet that is conducting to fat loss, as the one posted on my Sample Bodybuilding Diet.

This routine is time consuming in the sense that you need to be in the gym at least 5 days a week, and if competing, a couple of 45 minute cardiovascular exercise sessions every day are necessary. As many of you know, bodybuilding competition is a time consuming endeavor.

For those of you who do not wish to compete and just want to use this routine to drop down body fat, one cardiovascular session should suffice.
