Dave Draper's Bodybuilding Advice for Gaining Muscle Weight

Saturday March 18, 2006
Yesterday I did an appearance at a nutrition store and a young guy came to me asking what were the best supplements to take in order to bulk up. I ran through the list and explained that the basics are your multiple vitamin/mineral packs, essential fats and whey protein powder. If budget allowed, creatine and glutamine would also be of great help, I said. He proceeds to tell me that he is using all of these items and that he has not gained an ounce of mass in a long time. So then I ask the crucial question: "How's your diet?" At that point the truth comes out. It turns out that he was only eating once or twice a day.

Unfortunately, the situation that I just described above is one that I come across way too often. If you only learn one thing from me let it be the following: "Besides bodybuilding training, food is one of the most important variables in your bodybuilding program." Without food, even if someone would use anabolic steroids nothing will happen as the body needs raw materials in order to grow. That tells you hopefully how important food is. Think about it. It's like having a huge team of the best contractors who were hired to build a huge structure but cannot do their work as the concrete and other materials never got to the job site. Supplements only work if you feed the body the nutrients it needs in order to grow. Otherwise, do not even bother getting any as you are just wasting your money.

Going back to the subject of bulking up and diet, Dave Draper just put a great article together that discusses his rules for gaining quality muscle weight in addition to covering what is a realistic bodybuilding goal to aim for. If you follow the advice presented in this article, I guarantee that you will put on the muscle weight that you are looking for.
