Bodybuilding Empowers Breast Cancer Survivors

Monday April 3, 2006
At a study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, researchers found that "pumping iron may help breast cancer survivors improve the quality of their lives, as well as strengthen their bodies." (Source: Reuters Health)

Women who participated in this study and performed weight training exercise twice a week (for one hour each time) showed improved self confidence, better outlook on life, improved sex drive, and also, as you can imagine, improved strength.

I think that this study not only applies to breast cancer survivors but also to anyone who has gone through a recent traumatic experience, such as a divorce or the lost of a loved one. I can tell you from my experience in training other people who have gone through a recent traumatic event that they seem to recover psychologically quicker and get on with life when they embark on a bodybuilding program. The reason for this is because they start feeling better about themselves and gain a renewed focus that was not there before. In addition, the confidence, discipline and goal setting techniques gained through bodybuilding can also be used to improve several others aspects of your life.
