Bodybuilding Advice: The Bodybuilding Basics of Cardiovascular Exercise for Fat Loss
Thursday February 7, 2008
Since many bodybuilders are misinformed and believe that cardiovascular exercise will shrink them into nothing, they avoid cardiovascular exercise like the plague. As a result, they miss out on the great cardiovascular benefits that this type of exercise has to offer as well as missing out the fat loss and faster recuperation (between sets and weight training workouts) benefits.
Since February has been considered to be the American Heart Month since 1963, I figured why not revisit The Bodybuilding Basics Of Cardiovascular Exercise and remind bodybuilders why a properly executed cardiovascular exercise program should be a permanent component in their bodybuilding programs as it not only will help their hearts but their definition and muscularity as well.

Your comments are real “old school” regarding cardio. Aerobic based training leads to heightened fat burning and STORING efficiency, itself cause for metabolic damage. For one reason, the more aerobics one does, the more efficient fat burning and storing become. For fat loss we don’t want an energy efficient engine, rather an energy inefficient one. Secondly, aerobics leach BCCAs from muscle, causing muscle wasting disorders, all in a vain attempt to convert BCAAs to glycogen.
Scott Abel’s MET (Metabolic Enhancement Training) for bodybuilders, Dr Al Sear’s PACE system of interval training, both enhance fat loss and cardio conditioning without damaging aerobics. That contributes to the year round leanness and muscularity normally seen with sprinters, gymnasts, ice skaters. Both heighten metabolism by means of creating oxygen debts keeping fat burning going for up to 24 hours post-workout. Aerobics, on the other hand, sustain elevated metabolic levels for up to three short minutes post-training.
