Bodybuilding Exercise of the Week: How to Perform the Leg Press to Target the Leg Muscles

Monday December 29, 2008
Leg Press; Photo Credit: Chad RiveraThe leg press is another great exercise for the legs. The leg press can be used in addition to the squat or as a great alternative for those bodybuilders with lower back injuries that cannot perform squats. Due to the fact that the body does not move through space, the stimulation provided by this exercise is a bit less than the one offered by squats and lunges. As a result, if the leg press is used to substitute for squats, make sure that you also include lunges as well in your leg routines in order to have a basic exercise that moves your body through space in your leg routines.

The leg press, when performed properly, targets all of the lower body muscles. Depending on the way that this exercise is executed, emphasis can be placed on the quadriceps muscles or shifted to the hamstrings and the glutes.

In this week's Bodybuilding Exercise Description you will learn how to perform the leg press and what the different variations of this exercise are.
