Definition: Basic exercises are exercises that involve a large number of muscles in the body. They are generally multi-joint movements that target the larger muscles of the body, such as chest, back and thighs but also involve the smaller muscles as well such as the shoulders, arms, calves and abs, as auxiliary muscles. Examples of such movements are the
close grip chin-ups,
wide grip pull-ups,
dips,
incline dumbbell bench presses,
flat bench presses,
squats, and
lunges.
Due to the fact that basic exercises involve a variety of muscles and require a lot of coordination to lift the weights, these movements produce the most
neuromuscular stimulation.
