While losing weight and losing fat may appear to be the exact same things, in reality this is not the case. If you apply the wrong bodybuilding diet, at the very least half of your weight loss will come from muscle tissue and bone mass! Thus, it is of utmost importance that when a bodybuilding diet is implemented, that it be done using sound bodybuilding nutrition principles.
With that being said, please take a look at my latest bodybuilding diet advice article where I discuss the difference between weight loss and fat loss and I also discuss how to maximize fat loss while retaining, or even increasing, muscle tissue.

Very well stated, absolutely spot-on
The secret is to loose weight slowly if you want to loose fat. The liver can only process about 600 calories a day in fat. That includes the fat in your diet and the body fat that must be processed into usable energy when you are loosing bodyfat. Your recomendations of a 200 calorie defecet would result in about a 2# loss of weight in a month. It’s that slow if you don’t want to loose hard earned muscle. It’s a lot easier to watch your body fat(not your weight) 12 months out of the year.
Thanks Hugo for clarifying the difference between weight loss and fat loss. I totally agree with you.
I’m sick and tired and fat – and I’m sick and tired of it. This is my year to figure out how to lose weight fast and keep it off.
Ya I completely agree, eating less food and still eating wrong foods is going to help you lose weight but lose more muscle than fat. If you want to lose fat, which should be everyone’s goal, then make sure you eat the proper foods which provide more nutrients and less calories. This will help you lose waist fat and keep on that muscle. Thanks Hugo
